I wasn't happy with the way the 1st picture turned out:

====================
So here goes attempt #2:
About 10mins worth of multiple exposures loaded into DSS, no dark frame, median.

"The Milky Way Galaxy, commonly referred to as just the Milky Way, or sometimes simply as the Galaxy, is the galaxy in which the Solar System is located. The Milky Way is a barred spiral galaxy that is part of the Local Group of galaxies. It is one of billions of galaxies in the observable universe." -Wikipedia

By the way, the magical glow isn't coming from the Milky Way, just distant lights in the horizon. I couldn't get rid of the colour cast, but now I quite like it this way..

Canon 7D, Tokina 11-16, DSS

Thanks for all the faves!

This is amazing !
Iīve tried to do something similar but from a single shot, but I get too much noise. Iīve heard about a program called star trails that combines multiple jpegs so that there isnīt too much noise on the shot.
What is DSS? do you shoot RAW or jpeg? what is the exposure time of the multiple shots? ISO?
It would be great if you could answer me, if not, thatīs ok.
Keep up the good work.

DSS = Deep Sky Stacker, you should do some reading before using it (different blending modes, etc)
Shots were RAW but I can't remember if DSS supports them natively.
Exposures were 30s max as far as I can remember and ISO as low as possible, although I think I threw in a few 1600 ISOs. Basically mashed in everything I had from that night.
Hope this helps.

This is amazing! O.O

I was just wondering (because I'm a beginner with a brand new Canon 500D)...
How do you take photos like this?
Lens? Exposure time? Other settings? Editing?

I'm a n00b and I could really use some advice. ;)

Don't need any special gear. Mount a wide angle lens (18 mm or wider to make the star movement less noticeable) and keep taking 30s exposures of the same patch of sky, then load your pics into 'Deep Sky Stacker' for example, you'll have to do some reading on how to adjust the settings, and it realigns the stars for you (it has to be done to compensate for Earth's rotation). Google it up, it's a lot of fun on a warm summer's night. You have to be dedicated to try this in any other season :). Good luck!

Thank you so much! :D
I will check it out and try it this summer. Because it's too damn cold here in Denmark these days. :o

Just added you to my deviantWATCH, btw. I love your pictures!
